Alan Forrester

FPC PRESIDENT

Alan has been involved in the fruit industry since leaving university, with experience extending across both the multiple retail sector, as well as fruit importing and distribution.


Alan left Geest in 1995 to start his own business which was ultimately amalgamated into Malet Azoulay towards the end of 1997. The combined business grew over the ensuing years to be a major supplier in Stonefruit, Tropical Fruit, Grapes and Dried fruit supplying most of the major UK retailers.

In 2007 Malet Azoulay was acquired by Greenyard, a Belgian based company, the UK business is now being known as Greenyard Fresh UK Ltd. Greenyard has a worldwide presence in 27 countries with approximately 8,000 colleagues.

In September 2012 Alan took on the role of Managing Director in the UK. In 2013 Greenyard Fresh UK took on overall responsibility for their sister company Winchester Growers – now Greenyard Flowers and in 2014 Greenyard Fresh UK acquired a well-established top-fruit company, Empire World Trade. The UK business has a turnover of £185m and employs 550 colleagues.

Alan is also a member of the Fresh Management Team in Belgium, as well as being a Regional Counsellor for the CBI.

Greenyard Fresh UK is a sponsor of the Fresh Awards. Alan’s experience and expertise is highly valued on the FPC Board, providing representation on importing and growing sectors, with a specific expertise in exotics. Alan also sits as a Board Member on their most recent joint venture for top fruit in Kent – Bardsley Farms Ltd.
