The Sustainable Supply Chain Initiative (SSCI) has launched a public consultation on proposed criteria for auditing, monitoring and certifying regenerative agriculture programmes. Developed in collaboration with Peterson Solutions, the framework aims to provide a consistent benchmark for assessing regenerative agriculture claims, helping businesses strengthen due diligence and responsible sourcing practices.
The proposed criteria focus on four key areas: soil health, continuous improvement, a whole-farm approach and support for farmer livelihoods. Importantly, the initiative is not creating a new farm-level standard, but rather expanding SSCI's existing environmental benchmark to evaluate sustainability programmes that address regenerative practices.
Fresh produce businesses sourcing from agricultural supply chains are encouraged to review the draft criteria and provide feedback to help ensure they are practical, robust and workable for global supply chains. The consultation is open until 28 October 2026.
