Organic Action Plan for England Published

19 Oct 2026

The Government has published the new Organic Action Plan for England (OAPE), a 10-year strategy developed in partnership with the organic sector to support the growth of organic farming and food production across England. The plan aims to increase organic production, strengthen domestic supply chains, improve alignment between supply and demand, and grow consumer awareness and demand for organic products.

The Organic Action Plan for England has been welcomed by the Soil Association, which describes it as a significant opportunity to boost home-grown organic production, improve food security, and help deliver environmental benefits including healthier soils, increased biodiversity, improved water quality and greater climate resilience. The organisation has highlighted the ambition to increase the proportion of England's farmland managed organically from around 3.4% to 10% by 2036, helping domestic production better match growing consumer demand.

The Soil Association, which played a key role in developing the plan through the English Organic Forum, has encouraged businesses and stakeholders to engage with the opportunities created by the Action Plan and support its successful implementation over the coming decade.
