Fair Work Agency Replaces GLAA

Fair Work Agency Replaces GLAA

8 Apr 2026

On 7 April 2026, the Gangmasters and Labour Abuse Authority (GLAA) was abolished and replaced by the Fair Work Agency (FWA), a new body that consolidates labour market enforcement by bringing together the former GLAA, the Employment Agency Standards Inspectorate, and National Minimum Wage enforcement into a single organisation (Fair Work Agency – GOV.UK).

This reform responds to longstanding concerns about fragmented and siloed enforcement across the UK and has the potential to improve consistency and coverage. The creation of the FWA is welcomed but there has been caution raised that gaps in powers and jurisdiction remain, limiting the delivery of consistent UK‑wide worker protection and fully standardised regulatory burdens for businesses.
