Last year, the FPC and Aethr Associates published a report examining the implications of climate change for UK fresh food security. Aethr’s latest Insight report builds on that work, exploring how changing sourcing patterns are affecting the industry’s exposure.
The updated analysis suggests that, since 2019, UK imports have shifted towards countries with greater exposure to water stress, extreme heat and flooding. Conditions are also changing within the growing regions on which our industry already depends.
For businesses balancing cost, quality and availability, these trends raise an important question: are today’s sourcing decisions increasing tomorrow’s supply risk?
The report sets out priorities for strengthening international supply chains, protecting and developing UK production, and making adaptation part of commercial planning.
