Skills Bootcamps at a Glance Recruiting Now
What are Skills Bootcamps? They are flexible courses of at least 60 hours of training giving people the opportunity to gain new skills and fast-track to an interview with a local employer OR gain new skills in an existing job. Typically Level 3, 4 or 5. They are free to all learners and can be online, face-to-face, or a mixture of both depending on the subject.
Who are they for?
Skills Bootcamps are for most adults over the age of 19. Adults who are unemployed or self-employed can attend Skills Bootcamps to get the skills they need to find a job or gain new contracts. Employed adults who already have a job can attend Skills Bootcamps to learn a new skill to help them find a brand new job with a new employer.
Employed adults who want to remain with their existing employer and learn new skills to help them take on new roles and responsibilites, or fill skills gaps within the business, should speak to their employer. Employers are required to make a small contribution to the cost of the Skills Bootcamps if they want to send their own members of staff onto Skills Bootcamps, and the Government funds the rest. Employers with fewer than 250 employees contribute 10% of the cost and large businesses pay 30% of the cost. The cost of this contribution will vary depending on the type and length of course, and might be as little as £120 per person for an SME. Click here to find out how else employers can get involved.
Success. 96% of those undertaking Skill Bootcamps in Greater Lincolnshire during 2022/23 have taken on new roles or additional responsibilities with their current employment, or (where unemployed) have gained new jobs.
