Ripened Banana Exemption for Certificate of Conformity

Defra have now confirmed that those businesses who wish to import bananas for human consumption on which the ripening process has been initiated can be declared using document code 9083 specified in the tariff stop-press notice exempting the consignment from the need to present a certificate of conformity.

Bananas for human consumption on which the ripening has not been initiated must continue to be declared using document code N002.

Because of the differing requirements the banana on which the ripening process has been initiated must be declared separately to those still requiring a certificate of conformity. This also means that they will have to be weighed separately as well.
