On 25 February, the UK Government introduced secondary legislation into Parliament to fully implement the UK Government’s Genetic Technology (Precision Breeding) Act 2023, which was passed in March 2023. The Regulations were debated by the Second Delegated Legislation Committee of the House of Commons on 31 March 2025. The House of Lords will debate the regulations when Parliamentary time allows.
If the Regulations are passed by Parliament, they will come into force six months after the Regulations are made.
The FSA has published draft technical and administrative guidance for applicants to support the new framework.
Once the coming into force date is confirmed, subject to the Regulations being passed by Parliament, the FSA will also publish nation-specific enforcement guidance for local authorities.
