ETA Requirement for Eligible HGV Drivers Travelling to the UK

Eligible HGV drivers who travel to the UK without a visa will soon need to obtain an Electronic Travel Authorisation (ETA). From 25 February 2026, drivers who require an ETA and have not obtained one will not be able to board their transport or enter the UK.

The Home Office has produced a range of communication assets for hauliers, including videos and display materials already in use at several ports. These are available for stakeholders to use in their own communications.

Drivers can apply for an ETA easily via the UK ETA app, available on the Google Play Store and Apple App Store.
