Highlights:
• In 2022, the output from horticulture was £4,298 million, 12% of total agricultural output
• Vegetable production remains the largest horticultural sector, in terms of both land use and output,
accounting for 41% of total UK horticultural output and 72% of total productive outdoor
horticultural area in 2022
• In 2022, the UK was 40% self-sufficient in all vegetables, 21% in all fruit and 51% in all
ornamentals, in terms of value
• The index of producer prices showed some wide variability between 2021 and 2022 with indices
for fresh fruit down two points and fresh vegetables up 12 points
• The index of purchase prices saw fuel for heating increase, from 105 in 2021 to 173 in 2022,
along with fertilisers & soil improvers from 146 to 298, while crop protection increased from 101
to 112
