Defra Call for Comments on Large Plants / Machinery inspection at BCP / IC's and CP's

We would like to notify you of a call for comments on the proposal to introduce a derogation from the minimum designation requirements at Border Control Posts, Inspection Centres and inland Control Points.

The proposed derogation would apply only in exceptional cases wherein large plants and plant products (including large/mature trees) and other objects (such as used agricultural and forestry machinery) cannot, by virtue of their size, be unloaded inside at designated facilities under cover of a roof. This is a current requirement of the Official Controls Regulations.

The derogation would enable unloading and inspection of goods outdoors at designated facilities across England, Scotland and Wales, providing the defined scope of commodities and minimum facility and operational requirements are met. The costs of any structural amendments involved in meeting the minimum requirements would be met by operators.
