On 30 July 2026, DEFRA opened the Capital Grants 2026 offer for applications.
Capital Grants help farmers invest in practical improvements to their businesses, including hedgerow planting, water storage, farmyard drainage, and other infrastructure that supports long-term productivity and environmental outcomes.
This year, £225 million is available through the scheme, representing a 50% increase compared with 2025. The funding will help farmers improve infrastructure and undertake works that deliver environmental benefits across England.
To speed up the assessment process and ensure applications are considered fairly, greater emphasis is being placed on receiving supporting evidence at the point of application. Applicants are encouraged to submit all required evidence alongside their application wherever possible.
Funding is available for a wide range of activities, including:
Before applying, please read the following DEFRA blog post explaining the supporting evidence required for an application. To give farmers time to prepare, the full scheme guidance and applicant guide were published on 28 May 2026, ahead of the scheme opening.
The 2026 application window will remain open until all available funding has been allocated.
Updates will be published on the Farming Blog when approximately 25%, 50%, and 75% of the budget has been allocated. However, eligible farmers are encouraged to apply as early as possible.
