If you’re affected by extended producer responsibility (EPR) for packaging, here are the key points you need to know about the 2024 deadline:

1. Reporting Packaging Data:
   • Large producers should enroll on the Government’s Report Packaging Data service by 31st May 2024¹. If you’re using a compliance scheme, your deadline date might be earlier to allow the scheme to submit the EPR data on your behalf.
   • Retailers obligated under the new packaging Extended Producer Responsibility Data Reporting Regulations must report their 2023 and early 2024 packaging data to the Regulator no later than 31st May 2024. If you are in scope of the data reporting requirements, you must submit data by 31st May 2024 or be at risk of facing enforcement action.
2. Payment of EPR Fees:
   • In 2024, businesses will not have to pay any EPR for packaging fees². However, you must still follow EPR guidance and report packaging data.
   • Remember to continue paying any fees due under previous regulations.
3. Activities Covered by EPR:
   • The regulations apply to all UK organizations that import or supply packaging.
   • You need to collect and report packaging data if all the following apply:
     • You’re an individual business, subsidiary, or group (excluding charities).
     • Your annual turnover is £1 million or more (based on your most recent annual accounts).
     • You were responsible for more than 25 tonnes of packaging in 2022.
     • You carry out any of the packaging activities, such as supplying goods to the UK market under your own brand, placing goods into packaging, importing products in packaging, owning an online marketplace, hiring or loaning out reusable packaging, or supplying empty packaging³.
