Temporary relaxation of enforcement of drivers' hours rules in Great Britain

13 Aug 2021

In response to pressures on local and national supply chains, the Department for Transport (DfT) has introduced a further temporary relaxation of the enforcement of the retained EU drivers’ hours rules in England, Scotland and Wales.

The temporary relaxation of the rules reflects the exceptional circumstances stemming from a shortage of heavy goods vehicle (HGV) drivers causing acute supply chain pressures.

A new temporary relaxation applies from 12:01 am on 9 August 2021 until 11:59 on 3 October 2021.
