The Commercial Horticultural Association (CHA) is the British trade association for manufacturers and suppliers of plants, products and services to commercial horticultural growers throughout the world. Covering the ornamentals and fresh produce sectors, our members offer the full portfolio of products and services for all horticultural requirements. Building on its enviable reputation for research, innovation and high quality standards, the UK horticultural supplies sector has introduced some of the world’s leading technology, processes and services which are being utilised worldwide.

The CHA promotes its members’ products and services, plus UK horticulture as a whole, throughout the world at shows and via embassies and consulates by working closely with the British Government Department for International Trade (DIT). CHA is an accredited trade partner for DIT helping UK companies explore international markets and overseas partners to develop trade relationships with UK stakeholders. Crop Health and Protection (CHAP) is one of the four UK Agri-Tech Centres of Innovation, funded by Innovate UK. It is an independent catalyst for change bringing together researchers, industry and government stakeholders to accelerate the identification, development and adoption of innovative agri-tech solutions in crops.

CHAP and its partners have built 15 facilities in ten centres of excellence and have established collaborative and delivery frameworks to assist efforts to improve growers’ ability to produce crops with better resilience and sustainability, while enhancing the environment. CHAP is a not-for-profit company that receives funding from Innovate UK.

In the berry category, Fresh4cast now covers half of the UK production and is expanding internationally. The Lincoln Institute for Agri-food Technology (LIAT) is a specialist research institute at the University of Lincoln Riseholme Campus, which brings together expertise in a diverse range of subjects such as agriculture, artificial intelligence, robotics, automation, ecology, hydrology, animal welfare, biology, genetics, food manufacturing, mechanical engineering, microbial resistance, new product development, supply chain management and economics, to name a few.


LIAT aims to support and enhance productivity, efficiency, and sustainability in food and farming through research, education, and technology. Originally developed in Spain, PlantTape was acquired in 2014 by Tanimura & Antle, one of worlds’ largest vegetable growers. The PlantTape automated transplanting system is ideal for agricultural producers aiming for increased efficiency and productivity in their operations. The system is more efficient than the conventional transplanting methods using modules and soil blocks.
