Fresh Awards 2019 Manager of the Year

17 June 2019

Congratulations to Samantha Desforges of Berry Gardens, winner of the Fresh Awards 2019 Manager of the Year.

Over the last 18 months Sam has managed the HR department through a significant change. She has recruited several new members of staff who have brought a range of skills and experience from other industries to the business whilst managing to create a strong team ethos over a short time and aligning the HR team to the Berry Garden’s 5-year strategy.

Sam has also overseen the introduction of several new initiatives to the business over the last year, including:

  • A Health and Wellbeing Week
  • A 2-year management training scheme – specific to the soft fruit industry
  • Launching the Future Leaders course for grower members.

“Sam’s delivery of the business change strategy has been inspirational, innovative and engaging,” commented Nigel Jenney, Chief Executive of the Fresh Produce Consortium. “She has created a strong team ethos and continues to drive the business to embed the philosophy of ‘People First’.”

The Fresh Awards 2019 Manager of the Year was presented by FPC at the gala evening, hosted by Graeme Swann, former English international cricketer at The Pavilion, The Tower of London on Thursday 6 June 2019.
