New edition of FPC Packaging Waste Guide

4 January 2018

FPC has published the latest edition of its Packaging Waste Guide which is available to download from the website, free to members, under 'services - publications'.

The FPC ‘Guide to Compliance with the Packaging Waste (Producer Obligations) Regulations, 20th Edition, 2018’ covers the Essential Requirements for companies which pack products, fill packaging or import packed goods or packaging into the UK.

The Guide is reviewed annually by the Environment Agency, and includes details of Packaging Waste Compliance Schemes covering Scotland and Northern Ireland, as well as England and Wales. The ‘ready reckoner’ which gives typical weights for common types of fruit, vegetable and flower packaging has not been updated this year.

Following the UK’s decision to leave the European Union, there is in the short-term no change to legal obligations on UK businesses which will still be required to undertake an annual compliance process. In the case of the Packaging Waste Regulations the UK Government has enshrined these regulations in UK law and therefore we are unlikely to see any immediate changes, although there may be opportunities to review policy in the medium to long-term.
