Chrysal BVB and Plus - tulip post-harvest treatment

20 December 2018

Chrysal International has received an Authorisation Document from the United Kingdom regulatory authority (HSE) for changes to the instructions for use relating to BVB and Plus tulip post-harvest treatment.

FPC provided support to the application to extend the treatment period following discussions with FPC members and Chrysal last year.

The changes notified relate to an increase in the maximum treatment time for tulips and confirmation from HSE that dilute Chrysal BVB & Plus Solution can be used in transit buckets/proconas going into UK retail stores. This is covered by two specific restrictions to the usage instructions which are:

Specific restriction Chrysal Plus:

When used as a cut stem treatment the maximum treatment period (preferably at 0-5°C with a maximum of 4-days at room temperature) must not exceed 7-days. The treatment period may include a transport and store phase. During the store phase cut stems can stay in the diluted Chrysal Plus solution. Any residual solution can be discharged into a sewage system connected to a treatment plant.

Specific restriction Chrysal BVB:

When used as a cut stem treatment the maximum treatment period (preferably at 0-5°C with a maximum of 4-days at room temperature) must not exceed 7-days for all crops. The treatment period may include a transport and store phase. During the store phase cut stems can stay in the diluted Chrysal BVB solution. Any residual solution can be discharged into a sewage system connected to a treatment plant.

The specific restriction relating to Chrysal BVB (when used alone) applies to other bulb flower crops including Lilies and also Alstroemeria.

The authorisation document will be uploaded to the HSE pesticides website (www.pesticides.gov.uk) in due course.
