About the briefing

10.00am – MDS Overview, Christine Tacon

10.55am – Meet four of the MDS Alumni, including Andrew Staniland, Buying Director at Aldi. Andrew was in training to compete as a long jumper in the Olympics but due to an injury had to withdraw. He then applied for MDS and is now a buying director at Aldi, just six years after completing MDS.

12.05pm – Hear from three current MDS member businesses

1.00pm – Lunch & networking

MDS is a unique partnership of companies that was formed 30 years ago, to attract high calibre recruits with management potential into the fresh food, produce, horticulture and arable supply chain. Since then, MDS has seen over 350 trainees complete its graduate scheme, designed to equip young people with the experience and training to rapidly become senior business leaders within the industry. In recent

years, the number of graduates recruited has been increasing to meet the looming skills gap, meaning that by 2020 MDS will be providing the industry with 30 aspiring managers annually.

For many years MDS has been the "secret weapon" of the fresh produce industry, however MDS is now broadening its reach to the wider food and fresh produce supply chain. Today its membership includes retail, agrochemical and food processing businesses, providing trainees with an even broader view of the industry.
