Pesticide residues in food – UK monitoring

The Pesticides Residues in Food Expert Committee has published its latest report on monitoring pesticide residues in samples of beans with pods, grapes, milk, okra, prepared fresh fruit and potatoes collected in November and December 2016.  

The report highlights the following samples had residues above Maximum Residues Levels:

Beans with pods

  • One sample from Malaysia contained a residue of dithiocarbamates 1.1
  • One sample from India contained residues of carbendazim 0.4 and profenofos 0.07
  • One sample from India contained a residue of dimethoate (sum) 0.03
  • One sample from India contained residues of acephate 0.2, chlopyrifos 0.2 and metamidophos 0.02
  • One sample from India contained a residue of dimethoate (sum) 0.1.

The risk assessment screens identified that none of the residues detected by the laboratory would be expected to have an effect on health.

Okra

  • One sample from India contained a residue of flonicamid (sum) o.04
  • One sample from India contained a residue of flonicamid (sum) 0.1.

The risk assessment screens identified that none of the residues detected by the laboratory would be expected to have an effect on health.

 

Prepared fresh fruit

  • Two samples from UK contained a residue of chlorate 0.02
  • One sample from UK continaed a residue of chlorate 0.03

The risk assessment screens identified that none of the residues detected by the laboratory would be expected to have an effect on health.
