Latest French measures to propose ban on use of dimethoate on cherries

26 April 2017

On 29 March 2017 French Authorities sent a request to the European Commission to take an EU-28 emergency measure under Article 70 of Regulation (EC) No 1107/2009 to ban the use of dimethoate containing plant protection products on cherry trees and to ban the placing on the market of fresh cherries from cherry trees treated with dimethoate, originating from EU Member States or Third countries in the whole EU according to Article 53 of Regulation (EC) No 178/2002.

Given the start of production in some countries, the Commission treated this request with urgency and organised a discussion with the EU Member States at the Standing Committee meeting on Plant Health which took place on 6-7 April. The discussion on both points took place in a joint meeting of the section Pesticides Residues and Legislation.
