Pesticide residues in food

4 May 2016

The Pesticide Residues in Food Expert Committee has published the findings of its rolling reporting programme on samples taken in January and February 2016 of beans with pods; grapes; milk; okra; potatoes and prepared fresh fruit.

Beans with Pods

One sample from Pakistan contained a residue of lufenuron at 0.04 mg/kg (MRL = 0.02*), which is above the MRL. The risk assessment screen identified that none of the residues detected by the laboratory would be expected to have an effect on health.

Grapes

One sample from Brazil contained a residue of ethephon at 1.2 mg/kg (MRL = 1), which is above the MRL. The risk assessment screen showed intakes above the Acute Reference Dose for some consumers. A Rapid Alert (RASFF) notification has been submitted to the Food Standards Agency (FSA) about this finding. Further details will be published in the Quarter 1 2016 report.

Okra

None of the residues detected by the laboratory would be expected to have an effect on health.

Potato

None of the residues detected by the laboratory would be expected to have an effect on health.

Prepared Fresh Fruit

Two samples from the UK contained a residue of chlorate at 0.03 mg/kg (MRL = 0.01*), which is above the MRL. The risk assessment screen identified that none of the residues detected by the laboratory would be expected to have an effect on health.
